What To Look For When Choosing the Best Dump Pouch?

Dump pouches are storing empty magazines and for speeding up reload time as well as storing other gear. When trying to find the best dump pouch, there are a few factors you will want to consider such as type, material quality, capacity, opening, size, durability, retention, and additional features of the dump pouch.

  • Dump pouch type – There are two main types of dump pouches: roll-up and foldable dump pouches. Roll-up dump pouches tend to be larger and take up more space on your gear while foldable dump pouches are more compact.
  • Material quality – Material quality is always an important thing to consider when looking for tactical gear. There are a few different materials that are commonly used for dump pouches such as Cordura, Ripstop, and Nylon.
  • Capacity – Capacity is another important factor to consider. You want it to be large enough to fit all of your empty magazines, but not too large that it becomes cumbersome. Overall the capacity will depend on how you plan on using your dump pouch.
  • Size – Size is important to consider for a few reasons. You want to make sure it will fit your gear just right and not take up too much space in your loadout.
  • Durability – When looking for a dump pouch, you want to make sure it is durable. After all, it will be holding your magazines and other gear so you want it to be able to withstand a lot of wear and tear.
  • The opening of the dump pouch – It’s important to think about the opening of the pouch as well. You want it to be easy to drop your mags in.
  • Retention – Retention is also something you will want to consider when choosing the best dump pouch. You want to make sure it can retain your magazines securely so they don’t fall out when you’re running or moving around.
  • Additional features – Some dump pouches come with additional features that can be helpful such as MOLLE webbing, drainage grommets, and more. These are all things you will want to consider when making your decision.

5. Blackhawk Roll-Up MOLLE Dump Pouch

The Blackhawk Roll-Up MOLLE dump pouch is a great option for those who are looking for a bit of a more heavy-duty and rugged option. It’s a roll-up style dump pouch that is made out of either 500 denier nylon ripstop (solid colors) or 500 denier CORDURA® nylon (MultiCam®) which makes it extremely strong and durable.

Now what really sets this dump pouch apart from the others is the fact that it has MOLLE webbing on the front of the pouch (3 rows) which allows you to attach other pouches or accessories to it. This is great for those who need a little extra space or like to have their gear organized in a certain way. And to top it off, they also added internal elastic loops so you could attach lightsticks or other small items to it.

This Blackhawk dump pouch also has a stiffener in the opening so it keeps its shape and the top always stays open which makes it super easy to drop your empty magazines in it. Also, it has a shock cord to quickly and securely close the top when not in use. At the bottom of the pouch, there are grommets for drainage.

6. Condor 3-Fold Mag Recovery Pouch

The condor 3-Fold mag recovery pouch is a super roll-up style dump pouch. It’s also one of the most budget-friendly and cheapest dump pouches on the market, but it’s still a decent-quality product and actually quite versatile.

This pouch measures at about 10 inches wide and rolls up to about 3 and a half inches and when opened up it’s about 11 inches long. So it’s a pretty good size and can hold quite a few items.

The neck of the pouch has a stronger reinforcement so that it can hold its shape which makes it a lot easier to use. It also has a closable drawstring at the top to keep everything securely in place. The bottom of the pouch has two drain holes so that you can get rid of any water or debris.

7. Condor Roll-up Utility Pouch

The Condor Roll-up Utility Pouch is another good budget-friendly option that is also pretty versatile. Now Condor is known as an airsoft brand, but their products are actually pretty decent quality. I actually used this dump pouch on my battle belt for quite a long period of time when I was in the service. And it’s actually quite good and durable for the price.

While the name suggests it’s a roll-up style dump pouch it actually is a foldable one and doesn’t roll up like the previous one we talked about. The pouch is really small and compact when folded up and can easily be attached to your belt or any MOLLE system. It also allows you to mount it both horizontally or vertically.

It measures at 8.5″H x 8″W when open and 5″H x 4.5″W when folded. Because of its small size, it doesn’t offer great capacity. Condor itself suggests it can hold up to 6 m4 magazines but from my personal experience, it’s more like 4.

The dump pouch closes with a velcro flap and it also has drawstrings on the top so you can close it up and keep your mags secure. Also, it has a single drainage hole at the bottom.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Can be attached in various ways
  • Drawstrings closure system
  • Not as durable as some of the other options
  • Small capacity
